It was 13 January     13 January 1937: Madrid, killed in action by Romanian legionnaires Ion Mota and Vasiliu Marin On 13 January 1937, on Spanish soil, in Majadahonda, a suburb of Madrid, the Iron Guard legionnaires Ion Moța and Vasiliu Marin, sent by Captain Corneliu Codreanu with five other volunteers, including the famous General Cantacuzino, hero of the First World War, as a sign of solidarity among Europeans in the fight against the Bolshevik cancer, fell fighting under communist bullets. The heroic deeds of the Alcazar cadets and their leader, Colonel Moscardo, had indeed had an extraordinary impact in Romania, the Latin sister of Eastern Europe, which had been the first of the Romance nations to experience the red horror in 1918, motivating a veritable flood of commitments under the banners of the nationalist crusade of eternal Spain, channelled by the legionary movement.     During their funeral in Romania, the funeral procession travelled across the country before the burial. Hundreds of thousands of people took part in commemorations in many cities (including numerous nationalists from all over the world: from Germany and Italy, but also from Japan, Portugal, etc.), celebrating funeral orations for the two martyrs in several cathedrals. In Bucharest, thousands of young legionnaires dressed in their green shirts marched through the streets of the city. Moța and Marin were buried next to the movement's headquarters, the ‘Green House’, in a specially built mausoleum, a decision taken by Codreanu in order to inspire future legionnaires. The impression left by their sacrifice and the tributes paid to them gave the Iron Guard Party considerable prestige in Romania. From January 1937 to the end of the year, the number of Legion members rose from 96,000 to 272,000. And in the 1937 Romanian general elections, Totul Pentru Țară became the third largest party in Romania with a particularly high score (15.58%). A memorial was erected in September 1970 at the site of their martyrdom in Majadahonda, where a Romanian-Spanish nationalist ceremony is held every year to commemorate the sacrifice of the two Iron Guard envoys who fell in the crusade against Bolshevism. #OnlyHitlerNews
