Gina Joy Carano (born April 16, 1982 is an American actress, television personality, fitness model, and former mixed martial artist. Carano has faced criticism for her views on social and political issues. In August 2020, she was criticised for not supporting Black Lives Matter on Twitter; she called her critics "cowards and bullies" while also "liking" posts that denigrated the movement. She was accused of transphobia when she placed the words "beep/bop/boop" on her online profile, seeming to mock the use of preferred gender pronouns by transgender people and their allies. She later deleted the terms, saying fellow Mandalorian actor Pedro Pascal "helped [her] understand" the meaning behind preferred pronouns. Carano has shared misinformation online about COVID-19 mask mandates and falsely suggested the existence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 United States presidential election. Some critics used the hashtag #FireGinaCarano to urge Disney to replace Carano on The Mandalorian. Carano opened an account on the social media platform Parler while retaining her other social-media accounts. The hashtag #FireGinaCarano resurfaced in February 2021 after Carano shared a post on Instagram comparing political polarization in the US to the denouncements and violence enacted by private German citizens in the systematic treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany. According to the Washington Post, Carano's post said: "Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors – even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews," and, "How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?". In response, Lucasfilm stated that Carano was no longer employed by them and would not be appearing in any future Star Wars projects. That same day, Carano was dropped by talent agency UTA due to the controversy. Conservatives on social media responded to the firing with the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus
