July 19, 1861: After leaving Winchester (July 18) and marching approximately 18 miles, soldiers under the command of Gen. Thomas Jackson arrived in Paris, #Virginia at about 2 am on July 19th. After sleeping until sunrise, they marched the remaining 6 miles from Paris to Piedmont Station (now Delaplane) and immediately boarded a train that reached #Manassas, #Virginia the afternoon of the 19th. This marked the first time in history that a train was used to move troops to an impending battle. https://www.hmdb.org/Marker.asp?Marker=41648
