July 21, 1861: Confederate forces under the command of Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard and Gen. Joseph E. Johnston defeated Union forces in the first major battle of the Civil War during the First Battle of #Manassas, #Virginia (aka First Battle of Bull Run).
