In a spoof of the World War I canard that the British military was comprised of lions 🦁 led by donkeys - C.S. Lewis describes a donkey led by an ape šŸ¦ in "The Last Battle" This metaphor seems to describe how the US military has been mismanaged at least since WWII with chickenhawks like Lindsey Graham leading the way: Puzzle / Donkey: ā€œWouldn’t it be better if you went in because it’s you that wants to know what it is & I don’t muchā€¦ā€ Shift / Ape : ā€œReally, Puzzle … I didn’t think you’d say a thing like that. I didn’t think it of you….but I’ll go in. I shall probably die then you’ll be sorry!ā€ https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84369.The_Last_Battle?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=stT7o3czQ6&rank=1
