it is baffling to me that anyone in media or any of the alleged "experts" are still speculating about "how florida managed to open in person schools and not have covid superspread." in fact, they got lower levels of spread than the rest of their communities. um, guys, this has been glaringly obvious since last april: kids do not get nor spread covid to any real degree. never have. swedish schools showed NO difference to finnish despite being open and with NO masks or distancing and the finnish schools being closed. this is why the whole of scandanavia opened schools this year. and yet, in the US, we cannot figure this out and keep trying to ascribe the florida success story to some exogenous factor like masks or some other NPI. it's not. schools are safe. always were. masks and distancing do not stop or even slow disease spread. never did. this has all been a decent into pseudoscientific derangement at the expense of our kids, our lives, and our livelihoods. it's time to stop tiptoesing around this and tell it like it is: this has been the worst policy blunder in modern human history. it's been a disaster. it has had costs unlike anything in human history and accomplished absolutely nothing to mitigate disease. it's been utter fraud and malpractice on the part of health officials. it is long past time for a serious reckoning. these people ALL need to lose their jobs and see their careers over. none should ever work in the public sphere or hopefully even science or medicine again. if we let them keep this up, it just does more damage. if we let them pin medals on themselves and claim they saved us, they're going to do this to us again. we need to learn the correct lesson here. controlling groups did not outperform control groups. every bit of this policy driven cost was needless. it was and epidemiological LARP with a $10 trillion price tag on top of all the lives it ruined. enough is enough. https://www.wsj.com/articles/florida-schools-reopened-without-becoming-covid-19-superspreaders-11615973402?mod=hp_lead_pos7
