All that has gone - Along with all the paraphernalia of a Court - hundreds of former court buildings not just part of the UK's "legal heritage" - but the countries cultural heritage in general - beautiful elegant buildings - which can never be replaced - have been sold - and are now in private hands. I used it often - not as a lawyer - but as a member of the public - preparing my own cases as a "Litigant In Person - "We don't have a law library any more Sir - that the public can use - it was closed down... ...But there's one about a mile away - at Holborn College - they allow members of the public to use their student's law section......" "Yeah - I know that - but even they've sold off all the law books!!!..." Privatization of the law - is a polite term for - "state criminal neglect" - "looting" & "vandalism" - "piracy" and - "brigandage" - of the highest order! - Where were the Judges who sat in those historic buildings? - You're now in a Courtroom - Absent - law books or public computer access to them - law reports - legal information and data - or much evidence of law taking place...... Absent also - that essence of legal activity - the "busy hum" of a genuine legal system...... The UK "judicial system" - in believing the AI hype concerning the introduction of AI into the legal system - has been "sucker punched!" The dream of "paperless courts" - "screen / portal based litigation" - has become a nightmare resulting in "new" - "machine AI robotic paradigm" - "jurisprudentially - incomprehensible judgements" and "court systems logistics" - not fit for humans.... criminal trial backlogs.... The result has been the near "total destruction" - of the Legal System - in terms of "quality" & "efficiency" - no aspect has been spared. TO pay your court fees - you will be given a "formula" - to "calculate your fees" - These are not fees - THEY ARE TAXES!.... TRY....TO.... .... so called "efficiency drives" (for that read "PRIVATIZATION") - have turned courtrooms into "a second rate CEO's office" - struggling to appear "technologically efficient" - ...In a Court - you'll hardly find someone who looks - sounds & quacks like a - 'JUDGE' - but most can "bark" - like the "TYRANT'S" - that they are! The problem however - are the helpless folks - that majority of ordinary citizens - who are becoming more and more - increasingly hapless.... and abandoned ....
