Matthew 24: Part 2 Earthquakes. Parts of The Olivet Discourse `3.` And while Y’shua was sitting on the Mount of Olivesⁿ¹, his disciples{243} drew near and were saying among themselves and to him, “(1) Tell us when these things will be and (2) what is the sign of your coming and (3) the end of the world.” Now we have the starting point in Scripture once they were at the Mount Of Olives, and apparently, there was a discourse before what is written for us, because the disciples (plural) put forth a 3 pronged / claused questionnaire, IOW, consisting of 3 questions, as noted with the 2 conjunctions. ⁿ¹ Also called the Mount of Anointment, the hill owes both of its names to its olive groves. That is to say, they served the city in making olive oil to anoint Israel's kings and temple priests. {243} Peter and James and John and Andrew — Mark 13:3 not only says that it was four of them, but names them; and they were the first quaternion of the Twelve. — The sermon goes into some detail, which includes famines and Earthquakes. One of the most powerful earthquakes struck in 27 BCE, during the reign of Emperor Augustus. In 60 - 62 CE, another earthquake completely destroyed Laodicea. Laodicea is referenced in Colossians 2:1, 4:13-16 {of Paragraph 4:10-17}. The Laodicea area often suffered from earthquakes, especially from the great shock that occurred in the reign of Nero (60 CE) in which the town was completely destroyed. Tacitus wrote that this event occurred in 62 CE (Calculated). But the inhabitants declined imperial assistance to rebuild the city and restored it from their own means, supposedly in the era of at the turn of the 2nd Century CE and is now in Modern Turkey. Laodicea ad Mare (modern Latakia, Syria) was a major seaport. I understand that Colossæ and Hierapolis went down with them as well. And these things have continued on and increased in human history since that ‘PRESENT’ … `13.` But whoever has patience until the end, he will have LIFE. `21.` For then will be great suffering such as has not been from the beginning of the world UNTIL THE PRESENT, nor will ever be again.
