We compared Kraken, Binance, OKX, Bitget, Bybit, Coinbase, VALR and Luno for recurring crypto purchases and looked beyond headline fees. Our current findings: Kraken is our strongest overall choice for straightforward DCA. OKX stands out for multi-asset automated portfolios. Binance remains compelling for asset breadth and ecosystem depth. Bitget and Bybit offer more advanced automation for users willing to go beyond simple recurring purchases. And for South African investors, VALR changes the equation considerably, particularly when funding directly in ZAR. We also built the proprietary DN DCA Friction Score to measure: Purchase Fee + Spread + FX Cost + Funding Cost + Withdrawal Cost plus operational friction including scheduling flexibility, failed-payment recovery, minimum purchase size and self-custody options.
