Safest Crypto Exchange Accounts: Security Controls Ranked Most crypto security rankings ask: “Is this exchange safe?” That question is too vague. An exchange can be financially healthy and still leave your individual account exposed to: • Phishing • SIM swaps • Session theft • Stolen devices • Malicious API keys • Unauthorized withdrawals So we built the DN Exchange Account Security Score to measure what actually happens if someone gets into your account. We compared Bybit, Kraken, OKX, Bitget, Binance, Coinbase, VALR, Luno and CEX.IO across: • Passkeys and hardware security keys • Authenticator 2FA • Anti-phishing codes • Withdrawal allowlists • New-address delays • Withdrawal protection • Device and session controls • API permissions and IP restrictions • Biometric mobile security • Emergency account locks • Recovery controls Our current findings: Bybit leads for user-configurable withdrawal protection. Kraken is exceptionally strong for deliberate lockdown through passkeys, withdrawal 2FA, Master Key and Global Settings Lock. OKX combines strong FIDO authentication with withdrawal and API controls. Bitget stands out for cross-device withdrawal verification. Binance remains one of the strongest mature all-round security stacks. Coinbase performs particularly well for phishing-resistant authentication and withdrawal allowlisting. For South African users, VALR and Luno both offer surprisingly strong account-containment controls. The key distinction: Platform solvency risk ≠ individual account takeover risk. Most comparisons blur the two. We don’t.
