Reagan famously said that an alien invasion would bring together all the squabbling nations of the world to defend the earth. Basically, a rhetorical coexist bumper sticker with a UFO hovering above shooting lasers at humanity. A wild conspiracist would say that speech was proof Reagan had knowledge of alien existence, and was grooming the public for a future disclosure. A level-headed conspiracist would say that Reagan speech was suggestive of elite opinion that the nations of the world must be dissolved to make way for a global order, and the best way to do that would be to manufacture an alien hysteria at some point in the future.
