We desperately want to believe that psychosis motivated Clancy's killing spree. One by one, her children watched their mother kill each in turn, asking "why, mommy, why?" as terror and confusion gripped their hearts. But the evidence from the crime strongly suggests that Lindsay Clancy planned the murders with forethought, precluding the psychosis defense. So then we are left to ask ourselves, how could a mother in full control of her mental faculties, sane enough to understand her desires and actions, execute her own children with intimate cruelty? And that is where real horrors reside. Because we have no answer to that. Except the supernatural. And if not that...then what?
