I read long ago about airport staff in the #Philippines PLANTING #drugs in #tourists' #luggage, then forcing them to pay #blackmail $money to be allowed to leave the country instead of being imprisoned. I NEVER check bags, regardless of the length of my vacation or other trip. I wash my clothes myself, let the hotel do it, and/or buy a few cheap local outfits.
