They are used for temporary housing for 1000s of construction workers building MASSIVE #AI data centers. The city has approved large-scale #RV parks specifically for data center workers, including a nearly 1,000-space park on Elmdale Road and plans for up to 2,300+ spaces total across new developments. Abilene is in the middle of a huge AI data center boom, projects include #OpenAI, #Oracle, #Crusoe, #Microsoft, and more. These are multi-BILLION $dollar campuses, some valued at more than $26 BILLION+. The #power needs for these data centers in this area will exceed that of 1 MILLION average #homes. They’ll use ~ 8 MILLION gallons of #water initially, to fill their closed-loop cooling systems, and they'll use ~10 MILLION gallons PER YEAR, BUT these amounts are a MINUTE percentage of Abilene’s total water usage - which averages 22 to 24 MILLION gallons PER DAY.
