I minimize my #energy usage in both summer and winter, by **keeping the temperature as high or low as I can - while being reasonably comfortable** This saves one $money and reduces the chances of brown-outs or black-outs. #fans help a lot with #heat, and evaporative #water coolers can be used if the #humidity is not high. If the humidity is high, #dehumidifiers help. Home insulation, and dark-screen outdoor or insulative or reflecting indoor #window coverings, help also.
