South Carolina Woman Faked Her Own Kidnapping. Sumter mayoral candidate Sabrina Belcher, 29, staged her own kidnapping and beating to get “publicity, sympathy and votes in the November election.” According to police, at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Belcher reported that she was assaulted and kidnapped by a man she didn’t know, who also tried to rob her. She claimed she was injured during the attack. Crews took her to the hospital to be treated and she was released. However investigators later discovered Belcher was in contact with her alleged attacker 34-year-old Christopher Eddy with whom he planned the Facebook live stunt days ahead of time. Belcher ultimately admitted she faked the crime. She was apparently trying to smear a political opponent, and other candidates ahead of the election. Both were arrested Wednesday -- Belcher charged with conspiracy and filing a false police report of a felony, and Eddy charged with conspiracy.
