Update: "One Nation leader #PaulineHanson has distanced herself from a failed Western Australian One Nation candidate's homophobic statements, **saying they are not her views**. "**Parminder Singh**, who ran for an upper house seat in WA's state election last year, made several homophobic statements in a video clip posted by Perth comedian and content creator Jasky Singh, better known as **"Mr Sikkant"**. Asked if he thought people were born gay, he said no. "*No, no, it's a mental illness*," he said. "*No-one born anything … I blame on the parents because parents are too busy*." "Speaking to reporters at the doors of Parliament House in Canberra, Ms Hanson said Mr Singh was **no longer a candidate for the party**. "*I know he's made comments ... he's not a candidate. He's an individual that has his own views*," she said. "*He's not standing for One Nation ... they're not my views*." "Parminder Singh was number three on One Nation WA's Legislative Council ticket at the 2025 state election but was not elected. He is not running in the upcoming Secret Harbour by-election, but has posted content on social media campaigning for One Nation candidate Luke Herdegen. "One Nation's WA leader, #RodCaddies, said Mr Singh's interview **did not reflect the views of the party**. "*He wasn't authorised to say them things, he was an ex-candidate, and now he's just the same as you or any other person*," he said. "Asked if Mr Singh would be welcome as a candidate in future, Mr Caddies said, "*Things are being dealt with, and I'll let them play out with the party at the moment behind the scenes*." "*I think him and his family are going through a lot of stress*," he added. "**Mr Caddies said One Nation had a lot of support from the gay community**, which deserved to feel **"equal in society"**. "*I am honestly sorry that they have to, you know, feel any sort of, I guess, pain or hurt by anything that anyone says*," he said. "**Greens MLC Sophie McNeill** said those comments would be cold comfort though. "*As recently as this week, we have seen [Caddies] make disgusting transphobic remarks in our chamber in parliament, questioning people's identities*," she said. "Ms McNeill was referring to Mr Caddies telling her **"you do not know the difference between a man and a woman"** during a debate on Tuesday. "*He's only saying that now because the party's been caught out and because there's a by-election on*," she said. "Mr Caddies has been contacted for comment. "Mr Caddies said Mr Singh had messaged him after the ABC revealed his comments to say he was disappointed in himself and for letting the party down. "*He's a person who is maybe still a supporter of One Nation, but he's no longer a candidate*." "[...] Mr Singh's profile remained on the One Nation website yesterday morning, but after the ABC made enquiries with One Nation about the video, the page appeared to have been removed [...]."
