Inky black eyes (contact lenses). Running black gooey materials (like in Spiderman, Arrowverse shows), self assembling gunk (Stranger Things 3).

They are intentionally preparing and de-sensitizing the population to the takeover of black goo.

So what is this mysterious black goo?

It's nanotechnology. Particularly, Graphene Oxide.

Because of graphene's insane, otherworldly and highly programmable properties... it can be applied into (among many other things)... magnetic slime robots.

Many years ago, graphene was considered for applications in replacing brain neurons. (The application back then was deemed not feasible due to the high amounts of inflammation involved with integrating with the brain's biology.)
