Canada chose to make itself economically dependent on US, a subsidiary of US. 3/4 exports from Canada go to US. Canadians chose not to and to oppose building pipelines and export terminals for hydrocarbons which could have been exported at world prices for decades instead of almost exclusively exported solely to US at average 16% discount daily. Canada could have been a very wealthy country with its resources like Norway which has a sovereign wealth fund.
