Most walkers/runners think summer walks/runs feel harder simply because it's hotter outside. But temperature is only part of the story. In many cases, humidity is the bigger problem. 🥵❓ Why does humidity make running feel so much harder? Your body cools itself by sweating. The problem is that sweat only works when it evaporates. When humidity is high, the air is already full of moisture, so sweat stays on your skin instead of evaporating efficiently. That means: ▪️ Your body traps more heat ▪️ Your heart has to work harder ▪️ Fatigue shows up sooner ▪️ Your pace slows down even when effort feels higher ▪️ The risk of dehydration and heat exhaustion increases It's why an 88° day can feel dramatically harder when humidity climbs. 🏃♂️ What should you do differently? Most running coaches recommend: ▪️ Running by effort instead of pace ▪️ Slowing down when conditions are humid ▪️ Prioritizing hydration and electrolytes ▪️ Giving your body time to adapt to summer conditions The goal isn't to prove how tough you are. The goal is to train consistently without overheating. ❓ One factor many runners overlook? Their shoes. Every step sends force through your feet, ankles, knees, and hips. When your shoes lose cushioning or support, your body has to absorb more of that stress with every mile. That can contribute to: ▪️ Foot fatigue ▪️ Arch discomfort ▪️ Heel pain ▪️ Hot spots and friction ▪️ General soreness after walks or runs The good news is you don't always need new shoes. Sometimes you just need better support inside them. 👟 One of the easiest upgrades we've made recently was replacing Audrey's expensive green Superfeet insoles with WalkHero arch support insoles. She immediately noticed: ▪️ Better arch support ▪️ Less friction inside the shoe ▪️ More cushioning underfoot ▪️ Improved comfort during walks and longer days on her feet They're designed to help support proper foot alignment while adding cushioning for walking, jogging, standing, and everyday wear. 👉 Check them out here https://amzn.to/3S78wBd #ad ☀️ Summer running is already demanding enough. Control the variables you can. Hydrate well. Adjust your pace when humidity climbs. Give your feet proper support. A more comfortable run often starts from the ground up.
