Behind closed doors, a UN committee is taking steps to radically redefine the meaning of “children’s rights.” New UN regulations, if approved, would allow minors to challenge parental decisions in court. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is currently drafting a new interpretation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child that would strip parents of their authority over some of the most serious decisions affecting their children. At the heart of this project is a radical reclassification of abortion as a “human right,” demanding urgent access for children regardless of parental involvement. Gender ideology will also be enshrined at the highest level of “international law,” compelling states to affirm a child’s self-declared “gender identity” through schools and health systems, even if that means marginalizing parents and exposing them to lifelong harm. If adopted, this framework will become the new global standard, empowering courts, schools and health authorities to override parental decisions and place the final decision-making power in the hands of the state. Article 27 of the draft Convention on the Rights of the Child (Here is the provisional text of the document, available for download) suggests that the UN is working on a revision that would seriously undermine parental authority over children. Former Dutch independent MEP Rob Roos calls this a “dangerous scenario looming.” For months, the United Nations has been working on a controversial draft amendment to Article 27 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a 54-article 1989 agreement that guarantees the rights of children under 18. The convention has been ratified by 196 countries, including the Netherlands in 1995. ..... Under the new rules of the UN commission, even the opinion of a child as young as 6 or 7 will carry more weight than that of their parents and will be decisive in court. Experts warn that this will lead to the possibility of boys and girls independently making controversial decisions, such as sex change or other medical procedures such as abortion, without their parents' consent. In other words, parents will no longer have a say. “In this way, the UN is giving children a tool to marginalize their parents. It is a silent power grab,” former independent MEP Rob Roos told the newspaper De Andere Krant. “I think many people don’t know that this is currently on the UN agenda.” CitizenGO, a Spanish platform for international action, born from the organization HazteOír, known for its campaigns against abortion, LGBTQ rights, gender education and liberal family policies, launched a petition “Don’t Let the UN Redefine Children’s Rights!”, in which it warns: Important decisions, such as abortion for minors, become possible without parental consent. As a result, parents are seen as obstacles, not protectors. Children, schools and health systems can prevail over parents when it comes to decisions about gender identity. Any of the above results can be used in courts, schools or hospitals. All of the above distorts the meaning of parental authority.
