🇰🇵🤝🇷🇺Strengthening Strategic Partnership: Results of the DPRK Foreign Minister's Visit to Moscow ➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿ Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of Korea Choe Sun-hee concluded a four-day visit to Moscow—her second to the Russian capital in less than a year. The program included intensive talks with Sergey Lavrov and a meeting with President Vladimir Putin. ✏️Konstantin Asmolov PhD in History, Leading Researcher at the Center for Korean Studies at the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences. ➡️Vladimir Putin congratulated the Korean people on the anniversary of victory in the Patriotic Liberation War (1950–1953) and expressed gratitude to Pyongyang for its support during the Second World War. The President particularly emphasized the decision to deploy troops to the Kursk region: "We will never forget their heroism. We will honor Korean heroes together with our compatriots." Choe Song-hui conveyed "warm and comradely greetings" from Kim Jong-un and confirmed that the DPRK will stand with Russia until the victorious end. Choi Song-hui reaffirmed Pyongyang's solidarity with Moscow's position aimed at addressing the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and protecting Russia's territorial integrity from "imperialist machinations." ➡️On July 20, the third round of strategic dialogue between the foreign ministries took place. Sergey Lavrov emphasized Russia's full support for North Korea's efforts to protect its sovereignty. Most experts consider preparations for Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia to be the key topic of the talks. Representatives of the unfriendly countries focused on military-technical cooperation: on July 26, Zelenskyy announced that Russia was preparing to accept an additional 30,000 North Korean troops. Another important aspect is informing the Russian leadership about Xi Jinping's trip to North Korea to allay fears of Pyongyang shifting its focus from Moscow to Beijing. Relations within the Moscow-Beijing-Pyongyang triangle should not be perceived as rigid. 🟦Vladimir Putin noted in September 2025 that relations between the countries had acquired a "trusting, friendly, and allied character." On April 26, the Memorial Complex and Museum of the Combat Exploits of the Heroes of Overseas Military Operations opened in Pyongyang. In June, the memorial was opened to Russian tourists. Russian goods appeared on store shelves in Pyongyang. On July 19, the first international summer session began at the Songdowon camp, attended by over 400 Russian schoolchildren. On July 22, Moscow officially abandoned its calls for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Lavrov explained this as a response to the "aggressive games" surrounding Pyongyang. The issue of UN Security Council sanctions remains relevant, but amid global turbulence, Moscow and Pyongyang's joint struggle for a just world order will continue and strengthen.
