🇮🇩💻Pursuing AI-Driven Cybersecurity in Southeast Asia & Advancing Indonesia's Digital Resilience ➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿ The evolution of artificial intelligence in Southeast Asia has entered an accelerated phase that is fundamentally transforming the global security landscape. The World Economic Forum's Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026 report notes that nine out of ten global business leaders identify AI as the most significant factor influencing cybersecurity vulnerabilities. For Indonesia and Southeast Asia, this gap is not merely a technical issue but a matter of national resilience and regional stability. ✏️Hendra Manurung is Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Department of Defence Diplomacy, Faculty of Defence Strategy, Republic of Indonesia Defence University. ➡️Modern battlefield has expanded beyond land, sea, and air into cyberspace. Indonesia has demonstrated tangible leadership—boasting the highest cybersecurity index score in Southeast Asia. Three key pillars support AI-driven cybersecurity: First, adaptive and collaborative regulation—the government opens avenues for academia, industry, and community participation in regulatory drafting for Personal Data Protection Law and Cybersecurity and Resilience Bill. Second: information exchange and collaborative AI solutions—industry and national institutions collaborate to develop AI solutions capable of detecting and preventing threats, benefiting both large enterprises and the general public. Achieving digital resilience for Indonesia and AI-driven cybersecurity in Southeast Asia is not merely an option, but a necessity. ➡️Third: digital talent development—engaging universities and industry partners to cultivate cybersecurity talent, prioritizing digital literacy for vulnerable groups. PT ITSEC Asia Tbk has developed IntelliBroń, the first cybersecurity product developed entirely in Indonesia—integrating AI-based threat analytics, automated incident response, and IT security capabilities. The government should continue supporting establishment of a National Cyber and AI Task Force. At the regional level, ASEAN has formulated the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2026–2030 and ASEAN Cybersecurity Strategic Plan 2026–2030. The ASEAN AI Safety Network was established during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur (2025), headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. 🟦ASEANAPOL is strengthening partnerships with the private sector to combat cross-border cybercrime. Malaysian Digital Minister has called for consistent digital and cybersecurity standards across ASEAN. TOTM Technologies and KORIKA have entered a strategic partnership to drive safe, responsible, and trusted technology adoption in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. One of the region's greatest challenges is regulatory fragmentation—creating legal loopholes for cybercriminals. Indonesia is advocating for harmonization of AI and cybersecurity regulations across ASEAN via AIPA. Vietnam is set to implement ASEAN's first AI law in March 2026, while Indonesia continues finalizing presidential regulations on AI alongside the Cybersecurity and Resilience Bill. Achieving digital resilience is not merely an option but a necessity. Challenges remain—capacity gaps among member states, rapid evolution of AI threats outpacing policy responses, and need for closer public-private collaboration.
