"Free speech is back of Facebook! Go say whatever you want about mentally ill people, immigrants, and minorities--just remember no criticizing Jews or Israel tee hee."

That's what is happening right now. Just so you're all aware. Pressure release valve to get you to focus on something --anything else but them.

The Voluntary Union

If the United States is a voluntary union of states, how can the Confederate States of America be traitors if they voluntarily chose to leave the voluntary union? There is no perpetual union clause after a state joins voluntarily. In fact, the states that invaded the seceding states are by definition anti-democratic aggressors that chose murder to impose their will.

Many will attempt to cite Texas v White as the legal basis upon which secession is forbidden. They would be wrong. Texas v White never explores the legality of secession. Justice Chase ignores the question of the legality of secession by simply stating the matter had been adjudicated on the battlefield. Therefore, we still do not have a legal argument against secession.

If Californians voted to secede today because Trump's policies were inconsistent with their values and they found Trump intolerable, would that give the rest of the United States the right to invade California, kill its men, rape its women, enslave their children, burn their homes down, and take any remaining food to compel starvation? If the answer is no, why was it OK in 1861? The South chose to peacefully depart the union by means of a vote and that choice was honored by the preceding Buchanan Administration before the new Lincoln Administration chose to rearm and provision Fort Sumter.

Secession is a right of a free people who believe that they should not remain in a union with states that do not share their values. We, the American colonies, chose to secede from the British Empire. We call that generation of Americans "patriots." Most recently, the UK chose to secede from the European Union. Most conservatives applauded that decision. The South's decision to leave the union was by definition a human right that the union chose to break by means of war.

A Generation Of Lazy Learners

When I was twenty five I got rid of my television. Up until around 2020 I avoided using the internet. Our family lived off grid. If I wanted to learn something I had to find a book on the subject. I traveled to many different libraries in northern Michigan, and utilized inner library loan, sometimes waiting for weeks for the knowledge I was seeking. Oh the time that was necessary to diligently read and search indexes. Every once in a great while I would travel to the giant state library and search through their older hard to find books.

Then the road trips that took me from coast to coast visiting farms and other growers. Learning everything I could about their methods.

So coming off this experience, only a few years ago, the Lord asks me to teach through social media. I have few regrets. I have met some very special people here. But something is extremely evident to me, because of how recent my entry has been into using the internet. Technology has helped to develop a generation of extremely lazy learners.

TV and radio created the demand for information to be given in very short sound bites. “Say it quick, or you will lose me”, was developed at an early age to the young people that were raised sitting in front of a TV.

Now the generation of scrollers. “If you can’t give me the information in a meme that I can read in a few seconds, I’m not interested”.

Early on in my induction into social media I spent considerable effort creating over 200 educational videos that I could share with my students. Then I found out that people very rarely will follow a link in a post. What they wanted was for me to share written posts, the shorter the better. Recently I started to put my lessons into meme form with short statements that teach a point. But take it from a teacher you can only convey so much in a meme. But those memes had more interaction than ever, often climbing within the top 10 posts here on Gab.

Something interesting happened though. I needed to put a link to a free seed saving pdf into my post so people could follow along with what I was saying. It takes the effort of the click of a button. I’m not asking someone to drive to the library, or God forbid turn to the index and look for something that might not be there. Just hit a button. But just the act of suggesting that someone would need to look at a pdf to understand my lesson has caused interest to drop dramatically.

I am not writing this to shame anyone. Just making an observation. Oh don’t worry they have plans to hook you all up to computers in the future. You won’t even have to expend the energy to click a button, you will probably only have to have a thought and the information will be spoon fed to you. No not even spoon fed. More like a dropper bottle feeding a baby bird.
