8-27-2026 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY James 4:1-3, “From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts” Today James shares with us two specific truths regarding our prayer lives. Each is simple, yet profound. In James 4:2, James makes this statement, “…ye have not, because you ask not.” He says that there are often things we desire to have, and that we war and lust after them, when the issue is this, we remain prayer less. “You have not, because ye ask not.” Now, if we are honest, I wonder how many of us would confess that we spend more time doing a myriad of other things that take priority over prayer? Prayerlessness is the first problem. The second problem is described in the 3rd verse, “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” We often ask for the wrong thing and we ask for the wrong reason. Sometimes we are perplexed as to why we can’t receive some blessing from God, and here James give us two specific issues we need to be aware of. If we can get these two issues right, we may see a remarkable change in our prayer requests being fulfilled. After all, here is one more Word from God about prayer that we should consider. Psalm 84:11, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” If we pray, and do so with the right motive, this promise is sure. Try it sometime and see.
