This is a photograph taken at the 1938 Nuremberg Rally (Reichsparteitag Großdeutschland) held from September 5-12 at the Zeppelinfield in Nuremberg, Germany. The Zeppelinfield was just a part of the massive NSDAP rally grounds designed by architect Albert Speer. The building with the prominent Swastika is the Zeppelin Grandstand, which became an iconic symbol of National Socialist identity and propaganda. The image shows a mass gymnastics demonstration by thousands of women from multiple National Socialist groups (likely the Bund Deutscher Mädel - League of German Girls, and Frauenschaft - Nazi Women's League) - these demonstrations were carefully synchronized and choreographed propaganda spectacles designed to showcase German unity and discipline, demonstrate the idealized Aryan feminine beauty and health, and reinforce National Socialist ideology surrounding women's role in the German Volk. This 1938 rally was especially significant as it celebrated the Anschluss, or annexation of Austria.
