Mothers of 2 Girls Who Died After Gardasil HPV Vaccine Sue Merck Two mothers have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Merck, the makers of Gardasil HPV vaccine that caused the deaths of their young daughters. Isabella Zuggi, just 10 years old and previously healthy, received one dose in August 2022. Within weeks she developed severe headaches, fevers, and neurological symptoms. Doctors diagnosed MOG antibody disease. She died of acute encephalitis less than three months later. Her mother says no one warned her this was possible. Sydney Figueroa received two doses starting at age 11. She went from active student-athlete to wheelchair-bound with POTS, nerve pain, feeding tube, and full-time care needs. She died at 14 from a pulmonary embolism linked to her prolonged immobility and autoimmune conditions. Her mother states: “Gardasil destroyed my daughter’s life.” The lawsuits claim Merck failed to warn about risks of serious autoimmune and neurological injury while promoting the vaccine.
