Here's the finished sloth project, with the steel frame. My friend (with the plasma cutter) and I glued all those little cogs & gears to the front piece of steel (it's been painted with a dark grey textured spray paint). The front piece is a frame over the scratchboard, the scratchboard is attached to the back piece of steel with magnets. There's also a video showing the progress from my lame initial sketch to the final product. I'll put that in the comments. My friend is REALLY GOOD at interpreting my ideas.
