Part 2 of 3 It becomes clear between both books that “Bigfoot” is just a very matter-of-fact reality to not only the members of the Hoopa tribe, but to many Native American people in general. Which leads to “Tribal Bigfoot,” and the Native American/Bigfoot connection. Where you find Native Americans clumped together on reservations….Bigfoots are usually nearby, as Paulides discovered in his research. And when I say it’s just matter-of-fact for many natives it’s no joke – the subject is not only taught to schoolchildren in Hoopa from knowledgeable adults who’ve had encounters, but many Natives are taught what to do and not do in the event you run into one. First and foremost, be respectful. Verbalize outloud that you mean no harm, because it’s been discovered they understand our spoken language, and then slowly back away. And if you’re out there picking berries or mushrooms, then leave a basket of something behind as a peace offering while you quietly remove yourself from the situation ASAP. Meanwhile female Natives are taught how dangerous it can be to venture out alone in the forest, or even be too near the outskirts alone, as apparently BFs have been known to abduct human Native women who are vulnerable. And meanwhile there have been accounts of Native women in recent history bringing disabled or deformed babies they didn’t want into the forest to “leave for Bigfoot,” knowing they would take them in and raise them as their own. And that leads to the other intriguing component of the subject that Paulides stumbled onto with the help of artist Harvey Pratt: the human characteristics found in the faces of most of the BFs that were sketched. They even went as far as to do an experiment of removing the facial hair on the sketched faces to see what lies beneath, and damn if it wasn’t human-ish in many instances. Definitely lends credence to the stories of inter-breeding between to the two species, whether it’s via abducted human females or taking in the human children who later “integrate.” Though oddly enough in not one single account, nor sketch that was taken, did any of the witnesses ever report being able to see genitalia of any type on a Bigfoot. When asked they either say they didn’t see any, or go out of their way to point that fact out first. At best it’s ever only just breasts on the females, who have been seen with babies/children in various instances (who are usually the size of adult humans. O.o ) What’s also interesting is that most of the accounts are actually pretty mundane. Not sensational. It’s just people accidentally crossing paths with a Bigfoot out in nature, or glimpsing one crossing a road or property or whatnot. These things are just living their lives, usually trying to lay low and stay out of our paths, and that adds to the intrigue and believability factor.
