A long time ago on a golden afternoon on the River Thames… Celebrate Alice’s birthday, May 4! Also the date of her dream of Wonderland. After pondering the books so intensively, it was nice to finally watch the Disney cartoon movie from 1951. I found it very charming. Like most Disney adaptations, it changes so much that the message and significance are almost entirely different, but it is a great story in its own right. Like Disney movies from when Walt Disney was around, it is effortlessly musical. Anyway, it seems to represent Alice and Wonderland as most readers understand them. But it runs into one unusual, illustrative problem though. Since the source was so familiar, much of Alice’s dialogue is lifted from the books—and provides little support for the impression at the beginning that Alice was longing for, rather than would feel lost in, a magical and fanciful alternative world. #AliceInWonderland #AliceLiddell #AliceHargreaves #WaltDisney #Disney #cartoons #animation #films #movies
