After having posted many pics from the 1992 indie anime Chika Gentou Gekiga: Shoujo Tsubaki (Midori), wanted to note this before going further. The movie, a virtual one-man production by Hiroshi Harada, has a unique look to it, but I was amazed to find, it was based on a 1983-1984 manga, Shoujo Tsubaki (The Camellia Girl), by Suehiro Maruo. Shockingly, it was released in English, as Mr. Arashi’s Amazing Freak Show, by Blast Books in 1993, when manga wasn’t nearly as popular as now. It even retained the original right-to-left format! But checked, alas, it has become rare and expensive, with a copy going for $197.50 on AbeBooks. Time for a reissue? Did not notice Ikki Kita (Kita Ikki in western name order), a Japanese socialist, fascist, and pan-Asianist radical, in the anime. What part does he play? Showing some representative favorite clean pics. #ChikaGentouGekiga #Midori #SuehiroMaruo #TheCamelliaGirl #MrArashisAmazingFreakShow #BlastBooks #HiroshiHarada #indieanime #animemovies #anime #manga
