Oh, and it just struck me that the kind in "kindness" and "of a kind" is no mere polysemy: the former is merely an emanation of the former, so closely linked that it must be the same word. And likewise, in my mother tongue, are "gentillesse" and "gens" words drawn from the same Latin root gens, what Romans called kindred named after a recognized common ancestor or from the older Greek genos, which as Fustel de Coulanges demonstrates in The Ancient City, had the same meaning, and the same implications.
