The Completed Work of Yeshua Most Christians agree that Yeshua came to finish a mission. But when did He finish it? And does the Bible actually tell us? Yes! Loudly and repeatedly! A. Yeshua's Mission Had a Clear Goal He came to: 1. Fulfill the Law and the Prophets (Matt. 5:17) 2. Confirm the promises made to the fathers (Rom 15:8) 3. Put an end to sin, atone for iniquity, and seal up vision and prophecy (Dan 9:24) 4. Establish the New Covenant in His blood (Luke 22:20) These are NOT on-going processes. They are once-for-all completed acts. B. The New Testament Writers Were Not Vague They didn't say the end was "far off," "somewhere in the future," or thousands of years away." They said: 1. "The time is at-hand." (Rev.1:3) 2. "The end of all things is near." (1 Peter 4:7) 3. "In a very, very little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay." (Heb. 10:31) 4. "These are the last days." (Acts 2:16-20; Heb. 1:1-2) 5. "It is the last hour." (1 John 2:18) 6. "We eagerly await...about to be revealed." (1 Peter 1:5 Greek: "mello") 7. "Some standing here will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming." (Matt. 16:28) These are time statements. Not metaphors. Not coded language. Not elastic. C. What "The Day of the Lord" Meant The prophets described a coming "Day of the Lord" that would be: 1. A covenant judgement 2. A temple-ending event 3. A kingdom-establishing moment 4. A vindication for Yahweh's faithful remnant Daniel places it at the end of the Old Covenant age, specifically tied to the destruction of the holy city and the sanctuary (Dan. 9:26-27; 12:7). D. Yeshua Agreed With Daniel Yeshua said: 1. The abomination of desolation (Dan. 9 & 12) would be seen by His generation (Matt. 24:15; 34). 2. Jerusalem would be surrounded by armies (Luke 21:20). 3. The Temple would fall stone-by-stone (Matt. 24:2). 4. The Son of Man would come in judgement before that generation passed (Matt. 24:30-34). 5. The disciples would not finish going through the towns of Israel before He returned (Matt. 10:23). This all converges historically in AD70. E. The Climax: AD70-The End of the Age When the temple fell and the Old Covenant System was dismantled: 1. The Law was fulfilled 2. The prophets were sealed 3. The New Covenant stood alone 4. The kingdom was fully inaugurated 5. The age that was "about to end" did in fact end (1 Cor. 10:11; Heb. 8:13) This was not the end of the world. It was the end of the age Yeshua lived in-the Mosaic Age. F. What This Means About His Work The work Christ came to accomplish is: Completed Confirmed Historically anchored Biblically timed He did what He said He would do, when He said He would do it, in the generation He promised.
