Why do so many Christians on Gab insist that believers today are obligated to keep the Sabbath? Understand something, the Sabbath was part of the covenant Yahweh made with Old Covenant Israel at Sinai. It was given alongside the rest of the Law, not as a separate covenant, but as part of the whole. The same Yahweh who wrote the Ten Commandments on stone also gave hundreds of other commandments that governed Israel under the Old Covenant. 613 in total, if memory serves. Christ did not come to preserve the Old Covenant forever; He came to fulfill it and establish a New Covenant. When the Old Covenant passed away (and it did), so did the Law that defined it. Scripture says the Law was written on stone tablets, but under the New Covenant Yahweh's law was written in our hearts (Hebrews 8:10; 2 Corinthians 3:3). Are the Ten Commandments evil? Of course not. They reveal Yahweh's holiness and righteousness. But Christians are not justified or sanctified by the Law of Moses, we are under the law of Christ, walking by the Spirit and not by the letter. Paul repeatedly warned believers not to place themselves back under the yoke of the Law. Our hope is not in works, holy days, circumcision, or Sabbath observance. Our Sabbath rest is Christ himself, and our freedom is found in him alone.
