B:  Getting Into The Alphabet (Post B2 - Tohu And Bohu) #TheAlephBetOfAdam So in Genesis 1:2 we get a unique phrase. One we see nowhere else: “Tohu and Bohu” - (תהו ובהו) THW W•BHW: Usually translated as, ‘formless and void’ This phrase isn’t used ANYWHERE else. It’s as if the phrase were specifically designed for this sole purpose & usage. To tell us of THIS point in history #Tohu (THW) does not translate to, ‘formless’ It translates to ‘formless matter’. It’s not the concept of ‘formlessness’ or a ‘formless nothingness’, but specifically refers to a thing (or medium) that has no formed boundary This isn’t Darwinism or creating everything from #nothing. It’s creating everything from #something The T (ת) gives us a somewhere point The H (ה) gives us a something moving The W (ו) gives us a somehow state It is generalized, not specific. In this verse & passage we see, it is describing the state of the ‘Erets’ (Land). Land, in a un-formed state Think:  ‘Dust’ as a cloud, or ‘Sediment’ suspended in water It’s not the water/liquid—because water has a boundary, a defining edge (its surface) Then we get this term, ‘and bohu’ being attached to our ‘tohu’ word, and in reference to the un-formed ‘Land’ The ‘bohu’ (BHW) starts with our B, instead of the T. So the verse is showing a formless substance (tohu) WITHIN a ‘formed substance’ (a matter/ medium with at least partial boundary—just like our ב conveys) The B (ב) gives us a 2nd space IN a boundary The H (ה) gives us this 2nd thing in motion The W (ו) gives us this 2nd thing expanded So ‘bohu’ does not translate to ‘empty/ void’ as it is referring to ‘something’ not ‘nothing’ Rather, it is the ‘tohu’ substance being within a second substance, which has a Surface and interior, yet without a fully distinct form itself It’s as if Land were floating/suspended as Sediment, within a liquid mass, that has yet to be identified ..and that’s exactly where the verse & passage take us.. We then get the word, ‘Tohum’ THWM (תהום) ..which is just the ‘Tohu’ (תהו) with an M (ם/מ) attached. We know that M represents ‘liquid mass’ and it just so happens that this verse ends by telling us this ‘liquid mass’ is ‘Water’ by giving it a surface, liquidity and the plurality of the ‘מים’ as ‘deep water’ THWM (תהום), does not inherently translate to ‘Deep’, but rather as, ‘liquid state Density, Thickness, Mass’ However, in our context of ‘Surface’ being at its top, we DO then, get ‘Depth’, because our orientation IS below or ‘vertically downward’ So this passage is showing Land, suspended in Water. Before the waters gather separated. Which allows/forces the ‘tohu’ Sediment to settle, dry and FORM as Land So our triliteral roots, are תהו and בהו (THW and BHW). But we are also getting the more primitive biliteral roots of תה and בה (TH and BH) with the extension of ו (W) Then later the THW root, is being given more identity with the addition of an M, as the verse & narrative progress and just as the words themselves, progress naturally into sentences We are witnessing the formation of a language itself, within a single verse. Letters progressing into roots and roots into words and words into story. All based on the foundation of active pictographs The letters are telling the story that the words are also telling. Everything is coherent, collective & builds and nothing is happenstance or independent of the rest This is language before morphology, or lexical doctrines based on popular usage. The letters themselves, are setting the rules and the language is literally being engineered
