TIL a guy named celtchurchinterest recently (2024) made a public domain translation of the whole Greek Scripture revised from Thomson's, with modernized English and the Apocrypha (based mostly on World English Bible) added. https://archive.org/details/final-full/mode/2up Flipped through a few pages. Translation quality seems at least no worse than Thomson. Some of the obvious translation errors in Thomson (Zechariah 12:10) have been fixed, though other oddities I'd question (John 3:8) have been retained. I'd guess, given the recency of the translation, that it was produced with LLM assistance. That's not per se a problem, but I do wonder how thorough the proof-reading was. Was the correction of Zechariah 12:10 intentional, or only the result of an LLM auto-correcting the text? I also noticed that in the preface he seems to think Thomson translated from a Sinaiticus-based edition, but in actuality Thomson used a Vaticanus-based edition. Still, the rest of the preface suggests at least some level of thought & care was put into it, which is a good sign.
