This is absolutely common in technology companies. It's so common among tech companies to require this much every working day that it's built into (or available as a popular plugin for) the most common corporate messaging systems (e.g. Slack, MS Teams, Google Apps, etc...). Most tech companies (and a lot of larger non-tech companies) have some system that prompts you (at least for office workers) at the beginning or end of your day to fill out "what did you do today, what will you do tomorrow, what is preventing you from accomplishing your goals". It's funny, and probably shocking to the unbelievably coddled Federal workforce, but it's less than the minimum. This low of an expectation is practically insulting to anyone who works a real job. If I got this email at work I'd send in the last 5 daily reports, with commentary, and supporting links, and follow it up with an expression of concern that the company leaders have such a low opinion of their teams. I'd also have it sent within an hour or less (depending on how busy the day was).
