Romania is an excellent and timely example of the importance of an armed population. They just had their election, there was a clear winner, but the European Union decided they didn't like the winner and so overturned the election and had the president arrested. Now they are trying to frame him as a Russian agent, just like Trump. They are also going after his top supporters and allies. If the USA didn't have a massively armed population who are a real threat to the survival of the government, when Trump won the election, this is what would have happened to him. But instead they knew arresting Trump after the election would have resulted in civil war and all the politicians and senior officials who would have tried it would have been most at risk of attack. If the combined public don't have the ability to violently overthrow the government when necessary, they will eventually be enslaved. Might be 10 years, might be 100, but it is inevitable.
