God often treats others like they treat him. If people, including countries, abandon God; they should expect God to abandon them. Without God, they should expect bad things to happen to them. Some people ask, "Why does God allow bad things to happen?" Sometimes, they serve as a learning lesson. Sometimes, it is because the people and countries do not have, and maintain, proper connections with God: they do not properly love, honor, and obey God in their daily activities; they partake in things which are contrary to God (which separates them from God). If we want God to bless and protect us, we need to love and stay properly connected to God. Read the Prophets' (like: Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel) in the Old Testament of the Bible, you will learn what God did to Israel because most of the people in Israel forsook/forgot him; they did not follow his instructions, and did as they pleased. If we really love God, we will spend time prayerfully reading and studying the Bible daily.
