⚠️ Laser pointers with a power of at least 300 mW (Class 3B & 4) in green or blue are highly destructive at close range within a short period of time and, if moved slowly in a zigzag pattern across a digital camera lens and sensor, can cause entire rows of pixels to melt, leading to total failure. If the energy density is high enough, this heat can literally melt or burn the photosites (pixels) on the sensor. While the lens glass itself is more resistant, extremely high-powered beams can crack the glass, damage anti-reflective coatings, or cause internal haze, leading to distorted or blurred images. The sensor, however, is far more vulnerable and often suffers irreversible failure first. ❗ THEREFORE, YOU SHOULD NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, MOVE A LASER VERY SLOWLY ACROSS THE LENS OF A SURVEILLANCE CAMERA.
