@stormuftien Great video - It is simply not true that an insect diet is more eco friendly: - There is no reduced CO2 production compared with chicken farming, actually, insect farms need to be heated, so use more CO2 than chicken farms. Methane produced by cattle, is part of a natural, global cycle and is produced in quantities similar to pre-industrial revolution times, and is not expected to increase. There are as many ruminants on the planet today as there were before cattle farming started. - Insects convert feed to protein as efficiently as chickens, so there is no reduction in feed requirements for insect farms. Also, insects must be fed high quality human-edible feed because their whole body is eaten by humans. - In the US, 90% of what the cattle eat are crop residues, byproducts from cropping that would be wasted. Cattle will consume less human edible food per pound of final product than crickets. So cows are arguably more efficient than insects. - Insect farming uses as much water as chicken farming (most of the water is for food production). - Those promoting insects as eco-friendly don’t consider the replacement of animal byproducts such as leather, that will require factories to produce synthetically and pet food. In agriculture, no part of the animal is wasted. - Around 50% of the worlds crops are grown on natural fertiliser, much of it from cattle, this would need to be replaced with synthetic fertilisers, which degrade soil condition and increase water use.
