Imagine this. Let’s say that you were convicted of a serious crime and in court; you fully confess, were earnestly sorrowful and took full responsibility for your wrongdoing. Then the judge, seeing your sincerity and repentance instead of sentencing shows mercy and places you on probation. The legal definition of 'Probation' is a court ordered condition where a person is freed from their transgression As Long As They Do Not Willfully Return To Their Crime. This is exactly the situation we have before God. Colossians 1:20 says if you repent then you are “…reconciled to God and (make) peace with Him by the blood of the cross.” Your good deeds or behavior will not save you but there IS a condition of our 'probation' that still applies. While we are under God’s grace nevertheless being human we will still continue to sin, but as long as we confess our sin the Lord will forgive. However as today’s verse in Hebrews 10:26 says if we Willfully Continue To Sin we violate the condition of God’s grace and essentially violate our 'parole.' When and if you assume continuing in sin is OK 1 Corinthians 10:12 instead warns us: “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed LEST HE FALL.” Jesus said that the path to eternal life is straight and narrow, however because of free will it is possible to 'willfully' step off that path. If and when you do the protection of probation under the Blood of Christ is broken. Friend, living the Christian life requires us to walk worthy of the Lord in FAITHFULLNESS and not FAITHLESSNESS. Where are you willfully walking?
