"The city of Munich was hung with red-brown banners symbolising the martyrs’ blood, emblazoned with three golden runes dedicated to the Old German god Wotan. The flames that issued from bowls filled with oil reposing on pylons were supposed to represent the sacrificial fire of German priests, from which–according to the testimony of the Nordic sagas–heroes rose to Valhalla, the Arcadia of the ancient Germans. The National Socialist Party recreated in this way the myths of a cult that had disappeared thousands of years before–and this in strictly Catholic Munich." ~ The Hitler Book: The Secret Dossier Prepared for Stalin from the Interrogations of Otto Guensche and Heinze Linge, Hitler’s Closest Personal Aides, Chapter 2 - Summer 1934–February 1936
