Note the authors of the New York Times' piece and note how—echoing the lies the NYT spread about Iraq having WMDs—they say "[Iran] is now closer than it has ever been to being able to produce six or more nuclear weapons in a matter of months or a year."

They're actually laying the groundwork to justify an attack.

That said, Israel and the US could just be getting cold feet and may prefer to opt for a nuclear deal at this point.
