+ Firstborn Of The Unforgiven: Heavy Weapons + • The Marine is modeled from both the Marine in the foreground with all the purity seals stuck on his neck (interesting fashion choice) and the Marine behind him with the plasma cannon in the reference photo. The reference picture is taken from the original artwork found in the Dark Angel’s 3rd edition codex (the best edition of 40k I might add 😏). I think he turned out well and is a good mash-up of the two pictured Astartes. The weapon swap is from the_makers_cult(IG) . With how I printed this model, his arms are a little “beef-ier” than that of his squad battle brothers. I could have messed around with the scaling further but decided not to, because it is reasonable to assume that a guy operating an unstable ancient weapon would wear a heavier suit of fortified powered armor….that and the fact that I was too lazy and couldn’t be bothered to run an additional print. It was a minor detail that wasn’t worth fretting over. • When kitbashing, getting the scale right can be a bit of a moving target so it is good to remind yourself that if your close enough, you can progress forward without getting hung up on a previous step. I’ve often found that when you get everything all painted up, these small differences in modeling aren’t even noticeable. I great anecdote for what I’m talking about is actually my recently finished band of Mordheimers. I used minis from two different companies, and kitbashed a couple of differently scaled kits together. As I look at them now, all painted up, nothing looks out of whack proportionally.
