Our Democracy" is more than the vote, it appears, in the eyes of some. In their eyes, it is the expectation of your and my complete, unquestioned submission to their "will of the majority" and its "moderate" views, with civility. In practice, such "democracy" actually operates like the group projects of our school days - which nearly always ended up with one or two people dominating the process and defining the "will of the majority", and everyone else passively trusting them in grand Flounderian fashion instead of actively securing their legitimate interest in the success of the project. However, if a right is unalienable, it is to be protected even from the outcome of a majority vote. Protecting such rights supersedes implementing and/or enforcing the "will of the majority" if a free society is to remain free. This flavor of "democracy" reshapes debate from Left vs. Right, to Normal vs. The Other That Deserves No Respect. And it's a short walk from that Normal to ends-justify-the-means actions against The Other, as we have already seen with the socio-economic isolation known as "cancel culture". Joe Biden and his supporters, have become the fascists that they decry.
