Jeeping this past week - in the rain - we took the "old route" to the top. It offers a difficult section. Wet tires, wet rocks. I ham-fisted a more difficult line and set the front of the jeep (errr... the oil pan) down onto a rock. A one-second-per-drip hole was produced. It was manageable as I could still drive to get off of the trail. With a nearly empty one gallon oil jug, I cut the side out and used it to catch oil wherever I stopped - and dumped back into the motor whatever was caught. Off to town for more oil and some epoxy and brake clean. At camp I dropped the oil into the same catch-pan and let things drip for a bit. Once it seemed no new oil was dripping I cleaned the surface and applied JB Weld SteelStik. I noticed a curiosity in that there was almost immediately a sheen on the outisde of the epoxy - it seemed oil was seeping through - something I did not anticipate. As I had more epoxy I applied more to a wider area. It was a quick cure epoxy but this was near the end of the day and the plan was to let it sit overnight. In the morning I filled the motor and waited. A drip did appear but instead of a drip-per-second it might be a drip per hour - nothing of concern. Now back at home - time to source a replacement oil pan. I find no 4.2 YJ oil pan skids so it'll be a basic pan. I've gone a decade with never bashing the pan I'm good with rolling bare.
