Absalom rebelled against his father David after David ignored the rape of Absalom’s sister and then got mad at Absalom for exacting vengeance. It started with righteous anger, but became wicked. If older men call young men Absalom, they must be circumspect. They may be, but they very likely have a point. Being dismissive will cause a sense of injustice and a response of rebellious anger. Notice that this is his accusation toward his father. “He won’t listen to you and he won’t take up your cause, but I will.” Young men, do not be Absalom. Older men, do not create Absaloms.
