His company tried for over a decade to build a multi-billion-dollar LNG export terminal in Nova Scotia to export North American gas to Europe, Asia, and South America. They spent tens of millions on front-end engineering, had all construction permits, and even managed to secure a 20-year contract with Germany worth $35 billion! By all metrics, this project should have been a slam dunk -- North America has the gas that the rest of the world needs, and this LNG terminal was the ticket to get it to market. And yet, Canada's hostile govt ultimately strangled the project. Mr. Belanger is no longer bound by a confidentiality agreement. So, I sat down with him for a play-by-play retelling of his company's experiences to reveal how Canada became such an unattractive investment destination.
