Jeremy Bash served as chief of staff to CIA Director Leon Panetta from 2009 to 2011 and then as chief of staff to Panetta at the Department of Defense from 2011 to 2013. In October 2020, days after emails and other material from Hunter Biden’s laptop were made public, Bash was one of 51 former senior intelligence officials who signed an open letter claiming the laptop had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” Joe Biden cited the letter during a presidential debate, but we now know that Russian misinformation narrative is false - as the laptop has been authenticated - conveniently after the election. In fact, materials from the laptop - that the FBI had since late 2019 - was introduced as evidence in Hunter’s federal gun trial. After house committees examined the letter that was signed, the found that most of the people that signed it, including former acting CIA Director Michael Morell, signed it to help Biden politically. Morell testified he wanted Biden to win. Reports also indicated certain signatories maintained CIA contractor status or clearances around the time of the letter. Bash himself appeared on MSNBC shortly after the letter’s release and described "Crack Head" Hunter's "Laptop from Hell" material as looking, walking, and talking like Russian intelligence.
